“Uniting Against Gender-Based Violence in Nalolo District”
In a powerful display of solidarity, the Nalolo Local Authority, District Administration, and all government departments in the district have staged awareness raising activities on the devastating effects of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) during the 16 days of activism.
Dividing themselves into two teams, the East bank, led by Nalolo Town Council Chairperson Kolyokolyo Limakazo, and the West bank, led by District Commissioner Namatama Mupo, joined forces for a remarkable cause.
Bringing together various stakeholders, including Nalolo District Education Board Secretary Victor Likezo, representatives from Education, Nalolo Town Council Planning Unit, Victim Support, Health, Community Development, National Registration, Water, DMMU, Agriculture, Police’s Victim Support Unit, and ZANIS, the teams united under a banner bearing the theme, “Unite! Invest to prevent Violence Against Women and Girls.”
The teams presented on GBV issues, addressing crucial topics such as Incest, Rape, and both Physical and Emotional Violence. Community members are being sensitized on the impact of GBV, particularly on women, girls, and boys, and empowering them with strategies to overcome the effects.
Community leaders are also being encouraged to get involved in reporting cases of violence against women and girls to the police.
The government’s commitment to addressing the grave issue of GBV are being underscored, with information shared about the establishment of one-stop centers in each district to provide comprehensive support for survivors.
The response from the community is truly inspiring, as the collective voice against GBV resonated throughout Nalolo District.
Together, Nalolo District is forging a path towards a future free from violence, where every woman and girl can thrive without fear.
